Padma, a 54 years old woman, was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer and was being treated by a senior oncologist in Bangalore. She complained of severe back pain, nausea and dehydration which were known side effects of the treatment.
To deal with these side effects, Padma had to frequently travel to the hospital. Due to the presence of cancer and nausea, she had lost her appetite which had caused her to lose weight and energy. This had also affected her ability to move around freely.
Padma’s kin and oncologist felt that if they could arrange medical support services for her at home, then it would help a great deal in her recovery.
Ubiqare’s Home Care for Breast Cancer Service Puts Padma’s Life Back Together
Ubiqare assessed Padma’s case holistically and designed a home care for breast cancer service to take care of her special needs.
We assigned an onco-skilled nurse to work with Padma daily. Our Care Doctor connected with Padma’s oncologist to understand her care regimen and treatment protocol. He started monitoring Padma regularly at home and updated the oncologist about her progress.
The Care Doctor, under the guidance of Padma’s oncologist, started a side effects management program to help Padma deal with nausea and dehydration. The onco nurse helped Padma follow a special diet to help her deal with loss of energy. The Care Doctor also initiated pain management to help Padma with her back pain.
The Care Doctor submitted his assessment to the oncologist regularly who further had Audio video consultation with Padma to monitor her progress.
Outcomes
Ubiqare’s clinical telepresence technology and collaborative network of specialists, care physicians, and skilled nurses ensured that Padma received best quality of supportive care at home. Tele presence of a Care Doctor as and when required reduced Padma’s hospital visits and offered her immediate medical attention. The collaboration between Care Doctor and her oncologist allowed Padma to get the same specialist care at home which was previously available only at the hospital.
A combination of pain management, side effects management, and special dietary program helped Padma gain back her strength and lost nourishment. With time her ability to move around freely improved.
Having the right medical support at home raised Padma’s spirits which further accelerated her overall care comfort.
