Post-Operative Care for Elderly Patient Improves Patient Outcomes
09Feb
Renuka, a 72-years old resident of Bangalore, had undergone a hip replacement surgery. Having been discharged from the hospital, she complained of pain and stiffness in her limbs – especially when sleeping and getting up from the bed. She experienced great difficulty in walking and was left with limited range of motion.
Being a Type 2 diabetic, the lack of physical activity was affecting her blood sugar levels.
Her husband, a senior citizen himself, was finding it difficult to care for Renuka all by himself. The elder couple needed help and a support system that can help them get their life back.
Ubiqare Introduces Doctor-Guided Collaborative Post-Operative Care
Ubiqare set up a doctor-guided care ecosystem for Renuka at home.
We assigned an attendant to help Renuka with her daily activities. Our skilled nurse made daily visits to Renuka to check on her wound and take care of dressing. The nurse also recorded Renuka’s vital signs daily and reported them to our Care Doctor.
Our Care Doctor was always available on a call to interact with Renuka’s husband and her daughter in Pune updating them about Renuka’s overall health condition.
To help Renuka with her mobility issues, we initiated physical therapy with our physiotherapist who visited Renuka thrice a week. The physiotherapist set up a physical therapy regime customized to Renuka’s age and overall condition.
We also connected Renuka with our pain management specialist who measured Renuka’s pain level on NRS and initiated her pain treatment.
Renuka and her husband also sought help from our diabetologist to manage her fluctuating sugar levels and nutritionist for a diet plan for weakened digestion.
Outcomes
Our nursing interventions and Care Doctor’s presence aided Renuka in her recovery process. The physical therapy relieved her of the stiffness in her body and she started regaining mobility. The pain management offered her a lot of relief and the diet plan helped her regain her energy.
Renuka’s husband was able to share his caregiving responsibilities with our team of trained professionals which helped him regain some control over the situation and his life.
Renuka’s daughter was relieved to talk to our Care Doctor who regularly apprised her of her mother’s health and recovery.
Ubiqare’s collaborative approach of home care ensured Renuka received holistic care and attention that improved patient outcomes.
