Aruna, a 50-years old resident of Bangalore, had her life turned upside down when she received her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis 15 years ago. It took her some time to come to terms with the reality that she was struck by a chronic illness. But once the initial shock had waned, she started her treatment after evaluating different options available to her with her specialist.
During the initial phase of her treatment, she regularly visited her surgeon in the hospital for consultations and follow-ups. But as the disease progressed rapidly, Aruna started facing mobility issues. She gradually lost control over her limbs and was confined to a wheel chair. Being a diabetic, the loss of mobility adversely affected her blood sugar levels.
She also developed bed sores that caused further physical distress.
Her surgeon understood that it would be difficult to have her visit the hospital frequently for treatment. However, he also believed that a regular home care service wouldn’t suffice for her. What she needed was homecare that included medical oversight and skilled nurses for clinical support. So, he introduced Ubiqare to Aruna’s family.
Ubiqare created a collaborative care ecosystem for Aruna that involved her specialist, our Care Doctor, skilled nurse, an attendant, diabetologist and physiotherapist.
We signed up Aruna with our mobility healthcare platform that enabled her specialist to monitor her health at home. Our Care Doctor collaborated with her specialist and implemented his care protocol for Aruna at home. The Care Doctor held daily virtual interactions with Aruna as he monitored her vitals every day. He also visited her physically as and when needed.
We assigned a skilled nurse to Aruna who visited her regularly for cleaning and dressing her bed sores. Since Aruna was inserted with a urine catheter, the nurse monitored it regularly for hygiene and changed it.
Our Care Doctor also treated Aruna for urinary tract infection(UTI) that she developed over a period of time.
Our diabetologist worked with Arunaand her Care Doctor and specialist to titrate medication and get her uncontrolled blood sugar within acceptable range.
We further assigned a physiotherapist to help Aruna undergo moderate physical exercises at home for her limbs and to retain the mobility in the rest of her body.
The clinical interventions for UTI, blood sugar, and the bed sores were provided by our trained staff at home under the supervision of our Care Doctor and Diabetologist.
Aruna’scondition stabilized at home with Ubiqare’s clinical home care service.
The presence of our Care Doctor for regular monitoring helped identify distress signals in Aruna early on and address the triggers. Aruna could get clinical interventions supervised by our Care Doctor at home which reduced her frequent hospital visits for medical assistance.
Since our care model kept Aruna connected with her specialist who continued his treatment protocol, Aruna’s family was assured about the quality of care.
The availability of physiotherapist and diabetologist at home who coordinated their treatment with her specialist, further helped Aruna achieve better outcomes.
Today, Aruna’s blood sugar levels are under control and her wound has started to heal.
Aruna’s family is very relieved that Ubiqare is providing Aruna uninterrupted medical care at home that is being guided by her specialist. They also appreciate the collaborative approach adopted by our doctors and nurses which has led to holistic care of Aruna. The collaborative approach has also reduced the clinical coordination efforts of the family.
